John Lyon

Originally from Buxton in Derbyshire, John grew up playing the violin, composing and singing, eventually studying for his undergraduate and master's degrees in music at the University of Leeds from 2014-2018. During his time as a student, he studied conducting with Eduardo Portal and Dr Martin Pickard, and directed the university's two main orchestras, touring to Berlin with the university symphony orchestra in the summer of 2017. In his postgraduate year, John musically directed a production of The Marriage of Figaro which was voted the university's show of the year. Since graduation, John has become an extremely active freelance musician, composing, arranging, playing, conducting and teaching, currently working with the University of Leeds, The Leeds Music Hub, In Harmony Opera North, his orchestra 'The Leeds Camerata' and of course, the Thornton Singers, whom he looks forward to working with every Wednesday evening.'
